Print layouts: several photos on one sheet
The Layout area, next to Library and Edit, puts several photos on one sheet (A4, A3, A3+, photo sizes such as 10 × 8 in, a 30 cm square, or a custom size): a pair side by side, a grid, or a contact sheet with file names. Each photo keeps its edits. Layouts are kept on this device, so you can come back and change them.
- In the Library, tap Select, tap the photos, then Lay Out…. (Or open Layout and start with every photo shown.)
- Choose the Sheet (or Custom size… to type any width and height from 50 to 610 mm, for other shapes of paper or mount), Tall or Wide, and an Arrangement: 1, 2, 3, 4, 6 or 9 per sheet, a Contact sheet, or a Custom grid. A Contact sheet works out the grid for you: it tries every arrangement and picks the one with the biggest thumbnails for your photos' shape, the paper, margins and captions (up to 48 photos a sheet). It tells you the thumbnail size, and offers Tall or Wide if the other way round would make them bigger. A Custom grid sets photos Across and Down with the − and + buttons (up to 8 each).
- Fit shows each whole photo; Fill crops each photo to fill its frame. In Fill, drag a photo to choose what its frame shows.
- Set the Margin, the Space between photos, the Photo size and the Paper colour. Tick File names to print each name underneath.
- To rearrange, tap two photos to swap them, or drag one onto another. Remove Photo takes the picked one off the sheet; Add Selected adds the photos selected in the Library.
- Export makes one file per sheet at 300 dpi, sharpened for your paper. Print at 100% (actual size). On iPhone and iPad, tap Share… when it's ready, then Save Image (to Photos) or send the sheets to print.
More photos than fit on one sheet go on further sheets; use the arrows under the sheet to see them.
A fine-art mount: with Photos: Fit, Position moves the photos up or down together in the space around them. Optical centre sets them a little above centre, with about 1.5× the space below as above, as a mount cutter would; Centre puts them back. The space above and below is shown in mm. It works for one photo, and for a pair or trio, which move as a group. Photo size shrinks the photos within their frames to leave a wider mount around them. If a photo already fills the height of the sheet (a tall photo on a Wide sheet, say), there is no room to move it: lower Photo size first, or turn the sheet Tall.
Styles: reuse your settings. Each layout keeps its own photos and settings, and its Name is just a label. To use the same settings again (say a duo landscape mount on 10 × 8), set up one layout, tap Save Style… and give it a name. On any other layout, choose it from Style and the sheet, arrangement, fit, margins, space between, photo size, position, paper colour and file names are all set at once; the photos stay as they are. When a layout is set up exactly as a style, its name shows under Style. Save again with the same name to update a style, or tap the bin to delete it. Styles are kept in this browser.
